The Tyranny of Time

Jeremy Dolven's music always feels like a breath of fresh air. An organic experience. I really enjoy their vision of acoustic doom.
Sojourner

Sojourner All I can say about this album is that I listened to it on a rainy day on the west coast of Ireland while mourning the death of a loved one, and it fitted the mood - in both a very painful and a very beautiful way. Favorite track: 43.
brantly

brantly Even better than the first record. More fleshed out, a bit more post-folk melancholic / kinda-Current 93-y rather than so strictly medieval, but don't worry there is still plenty of darkened neo-classical / 16th century guitar wizardry. Could be the perfect soundtrack to the Mysteries of Udolpho. A great getting baked and sitting with cat-on-lap record.

Ron Ben-Tovim This was an instant buy even without listening to the first single and now that I've done just that (many times already) then I'm just overjoyed. Wonderful news

Thoth’s Girl After their first album, Navigating the Labyrinth, anything from Dolven is an instant purchase. I’m waiting patiently for the rest of this album 🤎🤎 11/25/2021

Come to me, your weary masses for I am your savior, your martyr, your friend. Cry on my shoulder, do not ask of me. Pour out your greatest fears, I will respond with a smile and a nod.... with a whisper of advice, not too loud now, with a friendly face. Yet when finally alone, I find a sinking feeling of despair. Lost in the ether, nowhere to be found. I am lost without you, my fellow. Distracting me from knowing myself, getting to know deep within. I’ll discover.... I don't like the person I have become.

I wonder where he is right now Wandering paths unknown I ponder: is he proud of me? I wish I could see his face Closure never came, taken so young Leaving me fatherless, guided by Luna Like a ship without a sail Seeking truth blindfolded Chorus: As I approach the forty third year I have to know that my life is not his I have to know that I am in control I will not die, I will not die Never knowing Always guessing Seeking truths behind closed doors Who am I? Solitary Grief cannot raise me. Never getting The chance to see What he means to me

Ego: I’m too young to die True Self: You have to survive Cast away the thoughts of YOU And a new you will be reborn! E: But what about the old me? The me who brought me to this place? Without that I cannot be! TS: Trust your self-forged chrysalis Emergence is Imminent E: Will I have learned? How will I remember? TS: The power of the paradox predicts That the very thought of growth Is enough to propel you forward Chorus: Partial suicide Advancement Partial suicide Too late to turn back Partial Suicide These thoughts are not real Partial Suicide When you are silent it speaks E: I am overwhelmed The deluge is conquering for me I haven't the strength to hold it back TS: NO! give in to it NOW! Let it consume you From the ashes you will rise!

It all seems clear to me now My unicorn is my demise Smiling to my grave Leaving emptiness to lie in my wake Chorus In that open field I am feeling so calm, serene Yet in my natural state Anger rage is pushed away In that Open field So easy for me to exist Yet There is something more than this life of calm, peace, stability In that Open Field Vulnerability and challenge Contains the silence We’ve chased away again In that Open Field Moving gently towards insanity The silent watcher is in control Waiting for me to slip and fall towards death Waiting for me to slip and fall towards death END CHORUS Finally the silence succumbs me I have wanted this all along Time has passed me by Yet finally the voices are quiet My time was wasted on thoughts that were not my own Circling like vultures waiting for death Here I am now forever at peace Just another dusty shell On the other side of silence Just another dusty shell On the other side of silence

I look upon you now, withered and old Meaningless A trusted entity for years Now obsolete Those that worship you will see Your promises will not come true There are other ways to show praise Nature, Human potential, and celestial Chorus: But your mind is closed Forever in the past A gallery of decay Burning away A gallery of decay Your time is over now, let us go! Look to the skies! Through the clouds you’ll see! Beauty beyond all compare That is where the truth lies! That is where the truth lies! Open your eyes and you’ll see! Open your eyes and you’ll see!
7.
I know I am to blame (Not entirely true) I know you are to blame (Not entirely true) We drifted apart Across the years I let you be angry I played the martyr I am not sure what I learned But I know it will not happen again It just cannot Chorus: Inertia carries me forward Learning from my mistakes Being compassionate and forgiving Yet never forgetting the past The guilt is strong in me The weight is on my shoulders The truth of the demise Will forever elude me I want you to be happy But at what price? I know I did my best I’m better off without you Repeat chorus

about

“The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry”—Hemingway

Dolven returns with more tracks of love, loss, beauty, and despair.
